The Young Republic is a volunteer-based  organisation, with currently 12 active members. The yearly budget depends on the projects (as we apply for funding by project).

For 2017, we have around 35000 Euros budget (from  Erasmus+, and individual contributions).

We have three main axis of work: non-formal education, research and advocacy.

Mission and Objectives:

The Young Republic is a youth organization working to empower young refugees to foster their democratic participation, civic engagement and social inclusion in their host communities.

Objectives:

- Promote the culture of democracy, human rights, gender equality and freedom of speech among young refugees in Europe and build their civic capacities.
- Foster youth participation, civic engagement and active citizenship of young refugees in their host communities and support their social inclusion.
- Enhance cultural exchange and cooperation between young refugees and their peers from the host communities.
- Build a strong base for youth integration and engagement that counters extremism, radicalization and hate.

Main Projects / Activities:

+ Non-Formal Education: Training and GAMIFY
The Young Republic organizes training courses for young refugees and for people working with them to support their participation and inclusion.
The Young Republic also organizes GAMIFY, a series of half-a-day events presented as entertainment events. It is an interactive and participatory learning experience designed to build inclusive communities; it gathers new comers with well established locals (with a focus on bringing plural and diverse groups) to game and meet other young people while exploring democracy and human rights related themes, reflecting, sharing and learning from each others experiences.
We use games to develop the attitudes, knowledge and skills of young people in the field of democracy, human rights and freedoms on both concept and practices levels. Democracy is tackled as a holistic concept where all citizens (either new comers or well-established) have the same rights to participate in the socio-economic, political and cultural life.

+ Research
The Young Republic aims to develop the knowledge about young refugees in Europe. The research and mappings focus on the demography and composition, their characteristics and preferences, their perspectives and priorities, the structures of their communities, their integration in the host communities, the conflicts that are attached with them, individual and collective attempts for organization or mobilization, the gender situation and women participation and the challenges facing them.

+ Advocacy
The Young Republic advocates for social inclusion as a human-rights based approach, youth participation, human rights, inclusive policies towards refugees and other issues within its framework and priorities both on the European level and on member states level. The Young Republic is part of wider coalition of Syrian refugee activists advocating the EU to adopt more inclusive migration and refugees policies. The coalition held several meetings in Brussels and NY ahead the UN High-Level Summit on Refugees and Migrants.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?:

We can contribute to the Anna Lindh Network in Sweden by sharing our experiences and expertise in working  with young refugees, in human rights education, democratic participation and social inclusion.

We are currently developping a GAMIFY manual, and we will be happy to share it with other members of the network if they are interested in testing the methodology, we are also very interested in building new collaborations and partnerships with other NGOs with whom we share similar areas of work.

We can also contribute by bringing the diversity in backgrounds and experiences of our team, and our openness for dialogue, collaborations, learning together and from each other, and thus creating a bigger and more sustainable positive impact.
