MRI aims to create a world where LGBTI people are free from discrimination and persecution and have equal opportunities in life, including in accessing employment, training, education, financial services, healthcare, housing, places of faith, and public services.
MRI currently works in the UK, Brazil and Cambodia.  In the UK, MRI works exclusively with LGBTI refugees and asylum seekers.

Mission and Objectives:

Our mission

MRI’s mission is to create tools, programmes, and policy recommendations that enable LGBTI people to step out of poverty, everywhere.

Our strategic objectives

To facilitate the provision of financial resources to those LGBTI people who are in poverty, are excluded from accessing formal financial services and wish to start a small business.

To facilitate access to housing, employment, training, mentoring and coaching for LGBTI people in poverty.

To research and better understand the relationship between poverty and sexual orientation, gender identity, or intersex status; to make recommendations that might alleviate poverty.

Main Projects / Activities:

In the UK our main activities include:

• Providing temporary housing through MRI’s safe houses and one-to-one support in securing temporary and permanent housing with other housing providers.

• Facilitating projects such as confidence and self-esteem building workshops that empower refugees and asylum seekers to realise their full worth and potential, rediscover their voices and regain their independence;

• Providing life coaching to equip them with new skills to cope with stress, anxiety and the trauma that LGBTI refugees and asylum seekers carry and to overcome the specific challenges they face;

• Facilitating access to employment, training, mentoring, start-up capital and offering support in drafting business plans.
