General Information:

Manor Gardens Welfare Trust focus on wellbeing support for vulnerable groups. The Health Advocacy Project, which I manage, supports refugees and migrants with accessing medical care, through providing interpreters and advocates. In addition, we look to recruit volunteers from these communities in order to help them gain experience in the hope of propelling them into employment.

At the moment I manage a budget of £400000 which is spent across five different projects that we run, including a maternity mentoring project, an interpreting scheme, health advocacy, FGM and perinatal support for vulnerable migrant groups. This support is provided through workshops, support groups, one-to-one support and campaigning.

Mission and Objectives:
  • To promote the wellbeing of migrant and refugee communities
  • To empower communities to take ownership of activities
  • Helping recently settled communities with accessing basic services
Main Projects / Activities:
  • Bright Beginnings - supporting mothers and pregnant women from migrant backgrounds through support from bilingual maternity mentors
  • Community Interpreting - helping migrants who face language barriers with accessing medical appointments.
  • Health Advocacy - Supporting vulnerable refugees and migrants with longer term support needs through providing advocates
How can you contribute to the Network in your country?:

Aside from the work that I currently do at the Manor Gardens Welfare Trust, myself and two colleagues have established our own project in which we hope to create exchanges between refugee groups and the local community. Refugees will have ownership of a space in which they can initiate their own activites and events, to which members of the local community would be invited.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?:

I would like to join ALF as I fundamentally believe in the concept of networking on important issues and that there is a pressing need for knowledge sharing within the refugee support field.
