Mon, 17/07/2017 - 18:23 -- Rana Elsadek

Manal Benani from Algeria and Hind Abu-Shkhadim from Palestine participated, along with 9 young leaders from Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Jordan, Kosovo and Tunisia, in the MEDAC Training Course on Human Rights and Education that took place in Sliema, Malta from 28 June till 5 July 2017.

On the first day, the students, coming from different backgrounds, were introduced to each other and they started telling human rights stories that affected them personally. During the one week programme, the participants were introduced to the human rights theory in different aspects such as: history, education, visual art, international law and environmental education.  In addition, Manal and Hend had the opportunity to present to their peer students the objectives of the Young Mediterranean Voices Programme. The summer course offered to the students a cultural tour where they had the opportunity to explore the historical sites of Malta.

The course aimed at providing participants with the opportunity to discuss and debate the issues arising from the theory and practice of human rights within the educational context and using art as a tool to express human rights issues. It was organized by MEDAC in collaboration with the Anna Lindh Foundation and 80:20 Educating and Acting for a Better world organization, and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
